I had planned on doing Lady Oscar for quite a while, but didn't start the actual construction until I actually found military epaulettes that would be perfect. Found a blue material I liked at JoAnns, but it was much too thin, so body of costume is lined in suedecloth to give it some weight.
After looking fruitlessly for some gold lace that would go good with the costume, I had to resort to a vinyl material for the gold chest and arm material. This vinyl was not made for this usage, so have to be carefully as it will tear. The gold cords were all cut from one length of christmas cording got at Big Lots for $0.99. The 2 medals are made out of model magic with acrylic jewels embedded in them and covered with gold or silver foil where appropriate. The silver medal is in a position where my arm knocked it off a couple of times and one of the little arms came off (ended up burning my finger conducting emergency repairs on this medal with hot glue).
This costume got a very good response, even though a lot of people didn't know the character. And due to the French flag I had, I got a whole lot of "Viva la France" whereever I wore it. I plan on wearing this costume several more times, just have to repair that troublesome silver medal, or possibly removing it like in the reference picture above.
